Maple’s Special – 4
Once again, I saw something down out of the street. In the crowded walking street with all the high-classed shopping mall (image it is in Orchard Road), a person is sitting on a stick, wearing one layer in the weather of 9⁰C, selling blanket. And his expression is just telling you a lot of unspoken sad stories behind him.
It’s really beyond words when it came to me. There’s a loud “Oh my God!” uttered deep in my heart, because I really didn’t expect them to be street-selling here. I can feel his feeling, the urge that he wants to go back home earlier, the urge that he wants to earn some living money from blanket selling.
Seriously say, if I didn’t see this myself, I am not going to believe it. Now I can really understand what people will do when they’re really poor. They will never think about their pride, their dignity and they are not afraid of death. Know why? As they have nothing to lose anymore
When a person comes to a state of nothing, they are willing to take any kind of risk. Some people may put it as “desperate”, but to me, is “the only way to continue their life”.
At the same street, I saw this performance.
It’s a big contrast from the picture just now, although their aims are the same, making money. One’s crowded by people, whereas the other one is totally ignored.
I guess this is part of human nature. We all only go for something that benefit us, either you pay and get something or you get something without paying. So maybe this is the reason why leads to the 2 different situations, even though both are selling something to the people.
But no matter how, they won my claps. They all fight for what they want on their own feet. And this is the attitude I have always wanted myself to be like.
